Hi everyone,

My boyfriend had to have a barium GI a couple of days ago so they could check if the portion of his colon was healed from his temporary ileostomy. The good news is that the results came back that it has healed, and his reversal surgery is scheduled for September 12th. His issue is now that since the barium GI was done, he has tightness, swelling, and pain in the area that was healing. Is this normal? Obviously, that portion of his colon is not hooked up to the plumbing anymore, so how does he get this barium out of his system if nothing has passed through that area in 6 months and clearly still isn't?

Probably should follow up with the GI or colorectal surgeon about that. If the discomfort is too much, may need to go to the ER for evaluation.
