Hi, I have a question. I had surgery 6 weeks ago and there was a complication, and I needed to have an ileostomy. I will be getting a reversal once I am healed. My question is: my abdomen gets tender; is this normal? I don't have a blockage; the tenderness comes and goes. Has anyone experienced this?

Hi BK,

At 6 weeks things are still settling into their new positions and "tenderness" can mean a lot of things to different folks.  If we're talking minor discomfort I'd say give it a little more time.  If we're talking pain that grabs your attention and makes you say WTF.......you might want to give your surgeon and Gastro a call to see if they'd like to take a scan.  Sorry I can't be more precise.

6 weeks old. Wow.

Well, firstly, welcome to the Tender Belly group. 😁 It's good to have you here and somewhat close location-wise.

I agree with w30bob above. Need to understand "tenderness."

Did you have robotic surgery or open surgery?

The more details, the better help we can provide.

All bowel surgeries cause adhesions (scarred tissue) plus weak muscles. A good PT who specializes in abdominal core can help you.
