Today I flew for the first time since my ileostomy in September. It was only an hour's flight. Upon descent, Bobby the Bag exploded. I emptied the bag before the flight, so there wasn't much liquid in the bag, but enough to leak through my clothing. Does anyone have any experience with this? Also, any suggestions would be welcomed.

Not for me. I wear a wrap (tummy sleeve) so if I have a leak, it is contained.

How long before your flight did you eat?

I have flown so many times, even going to Australia. I make sure my bag and stomach are empty before the flight. Then I stay away from dairy food and drinks and no soda. I keep my ostomy belt tight and don't put the seatbelt on too tight. Chicken and Gatorade are good. Don't chew gum because that makes it gassy. If you have a lot of gas, it doesn't mean you have to empty, just go to the bathroom and lift the top of the pouch and the gas will whistle out. Bring a tiny can of Lysol or tiny perfume and spray in the bathroom or near your seat. Don't open the window on the plane to let out the smell; it might cause problems, ha.

Oh no! So sorry you had it pop. That fear always is with me.

I tend to watch my diet if I'm gonna be out and moving around a lot. So anything carb heavy, soda or coffee, or a heavy meal? Avoid anything that activates the guy at all cost! Seatbelts absolutely must be loose around the waist. Having a carry on with ostomy bag change supplies and a clean outfit just in case is key!

Curious if you had on a one piece or two piece bag? I'm absolutely thinking when I'm able to fly I'm going to wear a two piece bag after reading about your experience! Thank you for bringing this topic up! I hope you have a good trip and your bags behave so you can fully enjoy it. Sorry you went through this, it must have been an awful moment in time.

A two piece bag is always the best way to go. You can burp it, or snap another bag on in 10 seconds. I can never understand wanting a one piece bag.  IGGIE

An hour and I emptied just before boarding.

I use the two-piece, but I had no warning it was going to pop.
