After church, I decided to cruise Pacific Coast Highway south to Dana Point. Was a nice sunny day as I inched my way in traffic through Newport and Laguna Beach. After lunch at Harbor House Cafe, I found a shady place to park.

BB

Gorgeous pics - as ever, TY for putting them up.

I needed to look up the flower fish - as unfamiliar - never seen before [wasn't sure you weren't joking :-))]

Amazing!

................ And, [on edit when looking up pics as well of these creatures] .... I think you may have photographed some of the species before - but today's pic just shows the 'flower' head part of the fish - so you got me going BB ;-|)))))))))))))) ....... the 'pink rose' really does look like a floating lily / flower!!!!

I too, like the egret, and yeah, feet BIG - even as a youngster - shows they are for more than balance in the scheme of things!

[Reminds me of my boxer pups when v. young - their paws are way out of proportion in the first 12 weeks before the body catches up .... and hence, some joke about 'boxing gloves]

....................

BB

What your pics DO underline is that you are making the most of your day - and kindly sharing widely.... TY

We can all take a leaf out of your book - and make the most of our NOW

:-)

Perplexity has this to say:

The Flower Fish

Flowerhorn cichlids, also known as flower fish, are ornamental aquarium fish recognized for their vivid colors and the nuchal hump, a distinctively shaped head. These fish are hybrids that exist in the wild only because they were released.

Flowerhorn breeding began in 1993. Red devil cichlids and trimac cichlids were imported from Central America to Malaysia, and hybrid blood parrot cichlids were imported from Taiwan to Malaysia. These fish were then bred together, which marked the birth of the flowerhorn. They first emerged for sale on the aquarium market in Malaysia in the late 1990s and soon became popular in many countries in Asia. They are commonly kept by hobbyists in the US, Asia, and Europe.

Male flowerhorns are generally larger than females, have a kok (nuchal hump) on their foreheads, and usually have brighter and more vivid colors. For most breeds, the females have black dots on their dorsal fins, whereas males usually have longer anal and dorsal fins. The most common and recognizable is the Red Dragon Flower Horn. As the fish matures, the coloration changes to a bright red, typically with a marbled pattern of red with white and/or black patches. Other varieties range from tan to yellow instead of red.

The original flowerhorn hybrid stock are referred to as luohans. The four main derived varieties are zhen zhu, golden monkey, kamfa, and the golden base group, which includes faders and the golden trimac.

Thanks, everyone. I appreciate the positive feedback.

The "flower fish" is actually a flower floating by. There were also roses and other flowers submerged nearby. The one I took a picture of was fully visible.

It was interesting to read about the Flowerhorn fish. I learn something new every day. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Flower fish was likely from a weddingโ€ฆor mayhaps a disgruntled girlfriend (on Valentine's Day) expecting a ring๐Ÿ˜‚. Yes, I do laugh at my own jokesโ€ฆit's a must in our household because neither the dog nor my hubby finds them entertainingโ€ฆ.jb

During a summer visit to Catalina Island, we took a bus to the airport from Avalon. From there, we hiked back to town, about 10 miles. We saw a herd of buffalo, a fox, and many birds. It was a very clear day, so we had great views of the California coast.

I've watched them hunting in shallow water. They shake a foot, hoping to rustle up small fish. Then they are amazingly quick when they pounce.
