Does This Look Like Skin Separation After Surgery?

My revision surgery was 2/07, and within the last few days, I'm noticing pain and separation of skin at the mucocutaneous junction.

I sent a photo to the patient portal, and they said it's macerated, not separated. There is a small bump in the gap at the bottom that also bleeds.

If it's macerated, the skin should quickly return to normal once it dries out. Skin exposed to moisture or liquid will soften and become macerated.

Give it a little more time. You're still healing from the surgery.

If it gets worse or causes excessive pain, go to the emergency room or doctor right away.

Honestly, I think it looks really good. Perfectly round. I totally agree with beachboyπŸ‘πŸ»

Hey there, from these pictures, no, it is not a mucocutaneous separation, which is good; they are not fun to deal with. I have had three. How big are you cutting the wafer? I hope to the size and shape of the stoma. You don't want to get red skin on top.

Hello Anne

From here, it looks like you have a very well-created stoma. Good job.

I've been cutting the wafer at 25; it was 32. It's shrunk a bunch already. I use a thick convex barrier ring, cut and shaped around my stoma.
I've also been using the powder and the wipes to build a barrier.

I'm very happy to know it looks good. I think I'm paranoid after my last surgery.

I'm no expert, but it looks good to me too. I had a mucocutaneous separation on one of mine, and it looked completely different.

Congratulations on a successful revision.

To me, the red bump at the bottom of your stoma looks like proud flesh (overgranulation), and they bleed sometimes a lot (especially if you are on blood thinners like I am). If the bump hurts or is bothering you, tell your stoma nurse or doctor.
But overall, it looks like your skin around your stoma is still healing, and healing takes time.
I used to have a lot of problems with eroded skin because I was not given the correct appliance. I use a New Zealand product barrier ring called Welland Hyperseal, which is infused with Manuka honey, which has allowed my skin to heal a lot.

All the best,
Gracie

Looks really good to me. Give it some more time to heal, and I'm sure it will be great. Keep up taking good care of it like you are. They do shrink, don't they? I have been cutting mine at the 25 too; it used to be 32. So I know what you mean.
