Hi, I had my colostomy 12 years ago due to a perforated bowel, I’ve been ok till this year ,and last few weeks I’ve noticed a lot of mucus from my stoma and streaks of blood in my stool, yesterday I had really bad cramping and as I changed my bag I had the runs followed by lots of bright red blood gushing out ,went to a and e but they don’t seem to know much about bowels ,I’m going to be referred to gastroenterologist ,anybody else had similar or any ideas ,I feel generally unwell as I have done for months .

Hello erika. Sorry to hear about your problems.

When your previous perforated bowel occurred, did they tell you what caused it and were the symptoms similar to that which you have now?

What you describe, does not sound very good and I hope you get an urgent  appointment with someone who knows what to look for.

Let us know how you get on

Best wishes

Bill
