Any fresh ideas for timing & meals before the change!

I have had ileostomy done since last 4 years. I use a Hollister wafer-pouch combination and change it every 7 days ( on Fridays). I invariably change in the morning around 7. I have tried different kinds of meals prior to change. I have found that a mix of mashed potatoes and bread with some ketchup or sandwich salad cream  taken around 9, on the previous night works out well. Any fresh ideas?

I change in the morning also.I find that if i just do not eat 12 hrs before i am alright through the shower. I am careful with the towel wiping off but do not have any drainage to speak of. The only two things i do not eat is nuts{peanuts, almonds, etc} and corn.I really miss the nuts though.I used to eat a jar a day before the operation.I settle now for peanut butter and crackers.

I usually change in the evening after I get home from work and before dinner, only because I'm rushing too much in the morning. I find this is a pretty good time because I haven't eaten since lunch time and my stoma is pretty quiet. I really think the key is learning  the time your ostomy is the least active and I think it's different for each of us. If I change on the weekend, between 10:00 and 11:00 in the morning works for me, but as I said, we're all different.

I like to change my wafer while sitting on my bike on the side of the road while in traffic. The last time a chp pulled up alongside and asked me if I was okay ,I told him I was. Then he asked me what stoma paste I used.I told him adapt from hollister. He asked if I had any extra .I told him sure thinking it was for someone else.Just then he pulled up his shirt and showed me his bag.

Some times life is just to cool.

Hi "be positive",

I found a forum posting from May 5, 2009 that may interest you: the topic title is "thickening up stoma output before changing appliance".

Cheers,

Eat a couple of mini-marshmallows!  It'll plug your stoma for a few hours.

I know it sounds extreme, but it really works!  Just drink something that goes through you quickly, like coffee or red wine and it'll unplug.
