Hi all! Sunny Florida here. My stoma is receding and I watched every video! I bought convex, the logic is it will push the stoma out. My question: do I still need a doughnut? I saw a girl with a big tummy (like mine); she put a doughnut on the stoma and on the back of the appliance. Yes/no?

When I used a doughnut with convex, it was too high and had trouble making contact with my belly and appliance.

Oh, one pet peeve between your ileostomy and my urostomy—seems you have time to do all these things. I squirt every few seconds to 15 seconds. Almost impossible to stay dry and prep and... I have a stoma tube but you still have to hold it, so still have one hand.

Has anyone stretched a doughnut with one freaking hand?????

Regards,

Bobc

Hello, I am replying to my own topic, like talking to myself! Thank everyone who posted videos on YouTube and commented here.

I checked my stoma and yes, the top of my belly is partially occluding my stoma, so I lifted the skin and the stoma stood up loud and proud for a good cleaning.

I used the doughnut while holding the upper skin back and applied extra pressure on the doughnut.

Convex barrier—ran my finger around the stoma-barrier several times, then the flange.

Have a good feeling about this.

Things I messed up:

1. Did not put a stopper in the Coloplast bag and dripped from the bathroom to the living room. Thank God for carpet.

2. Did not use protectant spray but my skin looks awesome, fingers crossed.

I hope I helped someone. We can rock this!!

If you still have barrier problems, then use a ring.

I use convex Hollister precuts and occasionally would get irritation until I started using a thin ring abutting my ileostomy. I cut the ring and place it around the stoma. Occasionally, I make a mistake and have to get a new ring.

Don't hesitate to consult an enterostomal therapist.

I have to Google "enterostomal therapist." I might need one and don't know it. Thanks for the info.
