DISINFECTION.
What I have now come to expect
is, each day I’ll clean and disinfect
my medical equipment so
no nasty hidden things will grow.
My stoma tends to make me think
it’s not only the shit and stink
that needs careful and tight control
but what goes with that rigmarole.
My stoma makes me realise
I would not want to compromise
all that work the surgeon’s done
to change locations of my bum.
I have a daily routine where
I’ll line up medical hardware
and disinfect the whole damned lot
to get rid of the grime and grot.
This routine has come to mean
all my equipment is kept clean
and I can feel I’ve done enough
to keep on top of all that stuff.
I like to think this routine will
keep my gear clean and mostly kill
each grubby little germ and bug
where disinfectant pulls the plug.
Some of the gear I throw away
but prior to that, I will still spray
it with disinfectant so
germs and bacteria won’t grow.
Cleanliness is what’s expected
so, when my gear is disinfected,
I can feel that I’ve done my bit
to make sure that I’ve dealt with it.
