DISINTEREST.
Most of the time we do our best
to write some posts of interest
but, very often what I’ll find
is that I might be writing blind.
Blind to what people desire,
blind to what some may require,
blind to what my rhymes may mean
to all those others in this scene.
Right at the start I should confess,
when writing rhyme I simply guess
that many people won’t want to
read these rhymes all the way through.
For lots of people fail to see
the point in rhyming poetry,
so, suddenly and consequently
they may switch off immediately.
I used to be like this myself
and rarely took books off the shelf
that smacked of arty-farty stuff,
for in those days my life was tough.
I thought that rhyme was not for me
because, as far as I could see,
you’d need to be intellectual
for it to be effectual.
In those days, rhyme was bypassed and
I didn’t really understand
the basic logic as to why
and possibly, I didn’t try.
But obviously, all this changed
and interests were rearranged
to make some space for rhyming verse
within my minute universe.
DISINTEREST. (continued)
And so, we come right up to date
where I’m a rhyming ostomate,
writing rhymes capturing more
than I’d thought possible before.
But, as I contemplate my rhyme,
I feel, maybe, I should spend time
exploring when disinterest
in osto-posts affects the rest.
I know that we’re all different,
but what make us indifferent,
or what makes us want to bother
with one post rather than another?
Do folks switch off when posts do not
focus on stomas quite a lot?
Or is it when the posts are long
that people think that they are wrong?
Why do some people come and go?
and why don’t they just let us know
what turns them off and turns them on,
or what they feel is sine qua non? (necessary)
I like the ‘ticks’ I sometimes get,
for they are like a small rosette
indicating something’s right
in the rhyming verse I write.
I also like responses where
readers tell me they’ve been there
and read the work that I’ve put out
for that’s what interest’s about.
Yet, sometimes I want more than this,
and wish to know what is amiss
so, I might stimulate some zest
and overcome disinterest.
