Hi, new here, right side defunctioning ileostomy at the end of January this year. Today I have an intermittent sharp stabbing pain to the right of my stoma and can't figure out what it could be. This is the second time this has happened. The first time it wore off fairly quickly; this time it's on and off over 3 hours. I don't feel it warrants a trip to the hospital. I'll be there during the week for my first chemo session as it is and would prefer to avoid another visit. Has anyone else experienced sharp stabbing pains, and what was it, please, if someone can share?

Appreciate your answers, TIA.

Get to a hospital. They may need to do a CT scan. A stabbing pain does not sound good. Maybe some kink, blockage, or partial obstruction? I'm a worrywart though, just me, but I'd go get checked out. As I said, a stabbing pain does not sound good.

Hi Ti,

How high up on your abdomen is your stoma? Sounds like your gallbladder, but that's usually above the stoma just at the beginning of our rib cage. Make sure you mention it when you're in the hospital!

Be sure you let your doctor know. If the pain persists, you need to have it checked out before you start your treatment.
