Hi everybody!

It happens to me at least twice a year, my appliance breaks. I'm also in the middle of something and away (far away) from home.

Yesterday - I was working out of town and in the middle of my evaluation (as a medical engineer) at someone's home when I had the feeling something went wrong. Yep! The whole front of me was brown and wet on my light tan slacks. I got my emergency bag from the car and tried to clean up in the client's bathroom, but it was too much. I composed myself (the show must go on) and completed the evaluation. (Lucky the client was blind)

When I got into my car - I called my wife. She calmed me down and got me directions to Walmart. I went in and bought everything (pants, shirts, suspenders, socks, underwear, and yes - shoes) because it was even in my shoes. When I got back in the car and called my wife again, she gave me an address of a hotel. She booked me a room so I could go get changed and shower! She is the most wonderful woman. I just could not think straight.

I replaced my appliance the night before. Slept and had no problems, but the wafer gave way at the bottom. Like I said, it happens to me at least twice a year. Once a year in this grand fashion, but mostly I catch it before any mess occurs.

I carry an emergency changing kit with all of my supplies.

I am now carrying a change of clothes. Anyone carrying a change of clothes and how do you carry them? Do you carry them with you at all times, including when you go to a restaurant for dinner?

I'm looking on eBags for a new backpack or something to carry everything. Any ideas?

Thanks!!

I think that we can all identify with your situation, having had a similar experience sometime.

But if it only happens once or twice a year, it is hardly worth worrying about.

Just curious though, wearing tan slacks with a busted bag, how in the world did you face up to going into Walmart? I can't believe that you weren't met with some skepticism at the motel as well.
Another thought—why didn't your wife go and buy the clothes and some cleanup supplies and bring them to you? Seems like that would have been less embarrassing.

It sure as hell takes more than one of those wipe things that you get at KFC to wipe up with.

By the way, my friend, this is not the proper place for your comments, better at "questions about ostomies."

Hi, I'm new to this site and I understand what you are saying. I take a baby bag with me with a change of clothes, about 3 spare bags, wipes, nappy sacks, and whatever else you might need just to be on the safe side. I've had quite a few mishaps, mainly at night, where it has burst. I've bought bed mats to protect my mattress and need to get protective stuff for my quilt too. I've only had my stoma for 11 months. I was out one night with my friend a few months back at a restaurant, and we had to leave as my bag had blown with air and it was noticeable, which was rather embarrassing
