FAIRNESS & ILLNESS
Some people do not think it’s fair
when chronic illness strikes and there
are no solutions to their plight
so there’s no way to put it right.
I feel that I agree with them,
or at least I won’t condemn
this realistic attitude
when they’re devoid of latitude.
Chronic illness is the pits,
especially when it involves shits
and ends up with a stoma where
our faeces will exit from there.
It’s hard to see the positives
when faced with all those negatives
and so, until we will adjust
it seems to be just shit or bust.
It seems unfair when you’re the one
who has the operation done
to move your anus to your tum
to replace your malfunctioning bum.
It seems unfair when you are there
hoping that you can then share
what it’s like to have these things
and all the mess and angst it brings.
It seems unfair that other folks
don’t have to bear these heavy yokes
and therefore may not want to share
or even show us that they care.
It seems unfair until we find
that kindness can enter our mind
and change the way that we perceive
the illnesses that we receive.
For if we find the positives,
kindness deals with negatives
and fairness is irrelevant
as a useful means of treatment.
