Hi, just a quick question. Since my ostomy (20 months ago) I have travelled from the UK to Germany and Spain but have only stayed in family houses. It looks as if I'll have the chance to go to Egypt in the new year. I know what to take etc but was wondering if anyone in the forum has been to Egypt recently? I'm worried about the disposal of my pouches. I use 2 a day. I'll be staying in hotels but not 5*.

Any input would be greatly appreciated

Hi.  I’ve been to Egypt.  No issues with pouch disposal.    Enjoy.

If you are going through 2 bags a day, you must be using closed bags. Just switch to a two-piece drainable, and you can keep it on for 5 or 6 days. Regards, IGGIE

Hi M,

I've been at this over 10 years now and never had a bag disconnect or pop off.  Only time I ever had a leak at the joint was when I didn't install the bag properly and didn't check the seal all the way around when I put the new bag on.  I can only speak for Hollister and Coloplast Sensura Mio......but I'm sure others will say the same about other brands.  If those types of failures occurred frequently no one would use those products.  Have a great trip!

G-Day Judi,

Same as Bob. I use Hollister two-piece and I have never had a disconnect either in 3 years. I did get a little bit of a leak, but that was because I was wearing a belt and it was pulling too tight on the seal, so it leaked a little. Also, with a two-piece, when you are placing the base over the stoma, you can see where it is going better and then place the bag, but click it all around and you will be OK. Regards, IGGIE

Arigato Judith! Just got back from Japan. Been to all of Western EU. Emptying on a bumpy 767 is the challenge. As a lady, you use hotel pad or tampon disposal. I carry those small black doggie park bags. Tie it off & toss into their marked disposal or pail. I was afraid to visit Egypt until all the fighting stops. I live to travel. Enjoy!

I've been to Egypt a few times in recent years and absolutely no problem... just did my change, everything into disposal bag, tied off and put in bathroom bin. No issues at all. On one of our trips one of the guys had a night time incident: he explained to a member of staff and everything was dealt with no problem... a thankyou note and a tip were much appreciated.

Try Bos odor sealing bags -size small.  I take these every time I leave home. A box has 90.  Just put a dirty bag in a Bos bag and tie a knot.  These things are great.  No odor at all--not matter what you put in them.  I have used them in airplanes, friends' homes, in Europe, on a boat.  They are magic.
