So finally I have been told that my stomal therapy nurse is able to order me the Convatec Diamonds Gelling and Odour Control Sachets, but I can only get a bottle of 100 sachets per month. I guess that is the maximum she can order.
I read the info on the sachets of the 15 sachets I got as samples, and I know that it says not to cut the sachets up - but using one sachet still keeps my output watery, and 2 sachets make my output turn into a thick porridge - and since the sachets start absorbing as soon as I put them into my pouch, I was wondering if I could cut one in half, and try using 1 and a half sachets to see if that would work?
I am a little disappointed as my nurse asked me how many sachets I'd be wanting to use in a day, and I think due to my bags being large that I could empty my bag maybe four times a day - which if I used 8 sachets a day would only last me 12.5 days.... Okay scratch that, I am deeply disappointed.
There is absolutely no way we could afford to buy it ourselves, but I was hoping that using the sachets, if I managed to thicken out my output, that my SenSura Mio large output bag pre-filters would last longer than they do now - as they clog up within 4 hours....
Anyway, I have sent my stoma nurse an email just asking her to cancel the order - as I will not be able to use the sachets for what I wanted to use them for.
However, a while back someone mentioned that you can use 'porridge oats' to put into the pouch to thicken output - does anyone know if this would be practical to use? If it works?
If it was not for the stupid way the pre-filters in the SenSura Mio bags were designed (not exactly suitable for ostomates with watery output.... I have complained a few times to Coloplast but they keep ignoring me - and I wish that my old Convatec bags could fit onto the SenSura Mio baseplates - but they don't.
I did find a YouTube video where a lady cuts her pre-filters out, but I have tried doing that, leaving just the main filter - but that doesn't make any difference!!
Since I like the base plates - and I haven't got the constant leaking that I had with my Convatec wafers, I don't really want to ask if I could try a different bag.....
I just don't know what to do!!
It does not help that today is one of my 'bad' days where I feel as sick as a dog. And probably if I'd been a dog someone would have put me down by now....
Sorry, I am not feeling very positive today.....
