I had a peristomal hernia and prolapse repaired on Jan 14. I continue to have stabbing pains constantly with every move, including rolling over in bed. Yes, my surgeon used mesh. I have every confidence that he performed his job well, but I am very surprised I still have this much discomfort 6 weeks after my procedure. Has anyone else had this procedure? What was your recovery like?

G-Day BH,

All operations take time, and some take longer than others. I had a parastomal hernia about a year or more ago and got it repaired without mesh, and all is 100% OK. Personally, I don't like the use of mesh, and I told my surgeon that it can move. I would talk with your surgeon and see what answers you get.

I am having parastomal hernia repair and incisional hernia repair in May. I am hoping it goes well. They will be using a lot of mesh in me, and I am just hoping that I don't have pain six weeks post-op. Are you sure you don't have an infection? I know that is a risk with this kind of surgery. Also, do you feel like the mesh is moving and poking your other organs? I worry about that happening to me, especially since I don't tend to sit up straight. So if I sit funny, I am afraid it might push the mesh one way or another. I don't know how flexible mesh is. Check to make sure it's normal to still hurt. Ask your doctor or surgeon.

Hmmmmm… very interesting. I go in tomorrow for my parastomal hernia surgery. I am going to ask my surgeon. 👍🏻

I would really appreciate hearing from others who have actually had this procedure to understand what their healing experience was.

And what does your surgeon have to say?

All of the surgeons and medical professionals offer only boilerplate bafflegab. When it comes to complications, they seem absolutely lost. This is why I am looking for perspective from real patients like me who have actually experienced the procedure. Telling me "it will take time," or "be patient" does not offer the perspective I am looking for. In US dollars after tax, has anyone of you had this procedure, and if so, what has your healing experience been?
