It's been a while since I've written and here I find myself again looking to you all for advice.  For the past 10 weeks since my surgery my stoma has produced a consistent flow.  However, now in my 11th week, I barely have any output for the past 5 days.  I don't have discomfort or pain, I just don't seem to have much output yet I'm eating more now than before.  I should mention my stoma is recessed into my belly a bit and my skin is not good because of this.  I have been using paste to try and protect my skin but because my stoma is recessed my opening seems to "disappear".  Could I be causing a problem by using the paste like I am?  I'm just concerned that my stoma output has really reduced significantly these past 5 days.  Any advice is appreciated.

........try not to worry so much, ....these fluctuations do happen sometimes.  I am glad to hear you are not experiencing pain or discomfort.  Do stay in touch with your Surgeon regarding this however, he or she is often a better person to go to and re-schedule a consult with, than a Regular Doctor.......the one who did your surgery is best to see to discuss this with

There are a number of reasons these things can happen, most of them nothing to worry about.  However the thing that concerns me most is the 5 days of not much output, I hope that has changed.

How are you doing now???  .....are things better???  Keep us up-todate on how you're doing.

Everything will be ok

Dear Wounded Doe:  Sorry it's taken me so long to respond.  Things have improved, almost too much.  I've gone from slow to overflowing these past two weeks.  Since my ileostomy 3 months ago I seem to notice I yoyo a lot as to my output.  On the flip side, my surgeon has said I may be a candidate for a reversal.  I'm excited about the possibility but also have reservations.  These last three months are the first months in years that I have been pain free for the most part.  I'm scheduled for some additional testing to see if I am a candidate.  I'll keep you posted.  Thanks for responding.

I am a permanent osto  -- but either way just be glad you can live and you will used to either aspect.  My neice had the reversal and it may become an issue later but go for what you need -- do use care with adhesions - ask for the wrap - I cannot say enough about it's value...

make sure you drink plenty of fluids......are you eating foods that are binding? Also if you drink alcohol it really does dehydrate you - so drink lots of water and for heavens sake have a drink every now and again to relax
