Experience is a wonderful thing: for example, NEVER take the telephone into the bathroom if you're going to change your appliance (yes, it will ring just at the right, or wrong, moment)
Always make sure the pouch is empty if you have to bend over to get at your supplies. If you have everything ready and have removed the wafer, you just know someone will need to go to the bathroom. There's one downstairs, so they're out of luck, especially if you have an ileostomy where preparation and speed are paramount.
And always make sure you follow the instructions:
THIS SIDE UP.
