Hollister Shape-To-Fit Wafers: A Disappointing Experience

I recently switched from using Convatec Sur-Fit Natura Moldable wafers to Hollister New Image Shape-To-Fit and I've regretted it ever since and I'm switching back to Convatec. The skin barrier on the Hollister product basically disintegrates within hours of passing stool. It is so bad that the skin barrier material will sometimes completely separate from the flange and leave a wide strip of bare skin exposed around the stoma. I'm changing the Hollister wafers daily while the Convatec wafers always lasted at least a full week, sometimes longer. The chemo treatments I'm taking for my  rectal cancer often cause diarhea and it looks like the Hollister wafers aren't able to deal with liquid stool. Anybody else have this experience with the Hollister Shape-To-Fit wafers? I've already ordered a new batch of Convatec wafers and bags but it really bugs me to have to shelve a couple hundred $$ worth of Hollister supplies because they don't work for me.

hi keith i have skin problems too , can you tell convatec about the problems u r having ??? i usually call the companys as they are the ones who make millions of dollars from us as in people i would love to find a pouch where my skin can breathe esp im in OZ and warmer weather i get tiny sweat pimples that have got infected because i have an ileostomy and really cant leave my pouch of for more than a few seconds , If i had a colostomy i would irrigate (if possible) i do hope all goes well with you but its the companys who make these pouches lift there game as we buy off them GOD BLESS the first person to make me an invisable bag LOL ------------- i dont use convatec as the supplier in australia has way to many back orders and i need a open ended pouch using coloplast is a cleaner way for me  cheers and good luck with your treatments Mooza

keith, this site has a classified section perhaps you could sell or trade your hollister supplies. chemo does strange things and its possible that once you are finished with it the hollister products may work fine. i use hollister myself and have great success with them

I use Hollister Cut to Fit New Image, so I had decided to try the Shape-to-fit figuring they would eliminate the need to cut, however, I had the same experience with them as you. Fortunately, I only bought one box of those wafers and they used the same bags so I did not have that much money invested in them. You should contact the company you purchased them through, maybe they can accept a return of the unused items.

I had the same issues with the holister shape to fit flanges.  You can get extended use by applying a convatec eakin conhesive slim to the holister flange.  It will get you a couple more days use and you can use up your supply and switch to the convatec flanges.
