Hello all, today is my one-week anniversary since my stoma op. Lots to take in this week and grateful for this community. I have a question regarding the skin around the stoma. Is it normal for it to be red and sore-looking one week after the op? And if so, how long does it roughly take to settle down? I'm also a paraplegic, so I don't have full sensation in that area. I have my stoma bag on since Sep 2022, I have been putting on since I am discharged from the hospital.

Are there 2-part pouches that come in different lengths? I have been googling to no avail. Also, which is better, a one-piece drainage pouch or a 2-piece? Thanks in advance for any advice or information.

I thought I'd give an update on my situation. I had my colostomy reversed 12 days ago, and had a protective ileostomy created, with the goal to reverse that in 2 months.

It is my understanding that quite a few people have given their stoma a name.
I have been thinking of that off and on since the time of my colostomy (Jan. 2015). I finally settled on one:
Krakatoa, like the volcano. It either spews output like crazy or is dormant for a long time, like up to 4-5 days at a time (even with many laxatives, etc).

My husband and I are planning a trip to Europe this fall. I had surgery last month and got my ostomy. I'm looking for tips for traveling with the ostomy, long-haul flights, and disposing of my pouch when I'm staying in a hotel or on a riverboat.
