I'm using a new Genii silicone stoma bag. It sticks too well and I have problems removing it! Any ideas?

I'm in the US so I'm not sure what product brands overlap. I use a Brava adhesive remover spray. Do you use (blanking on the technical name, haven't had my coffee yet) the "sticky wipes" before putting the flange on? If you do, perhaps you could skip that part?

Adhesive remover spray (I use Adapt/Hollister) works the best. Once I get the bag/barrier ring off, then I use a couple adhesive remover wipes to make sure I got everything off.

Hi Ru,

That's a very interesting product you're using there (link below). They make some pretty bold claims.......I'm anxious to hear how they work for you, other than the adhesion issues.......so please let us know. And their bags even come in colors!!!

The suggested things normally used to remove adhesive on ostomy barriers won't work on silicone, which is what you're using. Silicone is a bit tough to remove or dissolve, and usually it's removed by physically rubbing and peeling. But that's not what you want to hear. So here's a list of things that will dissolve silicone, but may take some time to work. In no particular order........and be careful as some of these solvents your skin might not like...so test prior......here you go

https://trioostomycare.com/products/trio-genii/

Baby wipes (sometimes they work, sometimes not....depends on the formulation)

WD-40

Vinegar

Rubbing Alcohol

Isopropyl Alcohol

Baking soda and butter

Nail polish remover (i.e., acetone)

I'm sure there are others, but you get the message......they're solvents, except for the baking soda and butter, which grinds down the silicone while the butter protects your skin. Let us know what works.

;O)

Yes, the adhesive remover spoken about. I do have to say I've got to check out this product you're talking about. Nothing ever sticks well for me and I have to use additional adhesive strips to make them stick to my skin. I usually have to change every 2 or 3 days because mine is falling off. I use a Hollister product. Can't wait to try this one. Thank you.

Well BOO, it's UK only. I'm requesting a sample and sending it to a friend's address, and she'll forward it to me. I need something that is like super glue on me. LOL

Hello Ru.

I just had a quick look on their website, and they do a silicone remover spray 'Trio Elite® Sting Free Adhesive Remover', which also comes in wipes.

This seems the obvious first choice as it will no doubt be available on prescription with the NHS. However, I would be inclined to ring the firm (0800 531 6280) and ask their advice and perhaps ask them to send some samples before you put it on prescription.

Best wishes

Bill
