Does anyone have advice on what type of products I should use?

I have a stoma inside what I am calling a crater. It does not sit above my skin.

I have constant leaks and I am looking for some advice. It might be something as simple as using the wrong products.

Please help.

Hi,

Have you tried a convex wafer? They might help.

Convex wafers are designed to help reduce leakage. If your stoma is flush or retracted, a convexity flange is the outward curving of the baseplate or skin barrier.

In my opinion, you need to contact a stoma nurse. Leakages are not good and can lead to serious problems.

Hi, I have a similar problem. I now use a hard convex 1-piece pouch (Hollister 53900) which has solved my problem. It was recommended by my stoma nurse. She also mentioned a similar pouch made by Dansac which I tried, but I do not recall the number. Best of luck... Elwick

Same for me: not rising enough out of the skin and initially created a lot of leaking issues.

Convex wafer is the solution...

But by the way you describe it, yours is way inset...

Losing weight helps, as less fat tissue makes the stoma "surge" on the abdomen...

Your stoma nurse can also tell you if your case might need a quick resetting of the stoma. It's a quick surgery where they bring it forward.

My urostomy is inset also, and I use the 2-piece Convatec Natura Sure Fit wafer 413179. I have used them for three years and very seldom have any leakage issues. I tried a lot of the flat wafers to begin with, but every one of them was leaking before an hour was up.

One trick the ostomy nurse gave us before I left the hospital was to heat a package of hospital bath wipes cloths in the microwave for about 15 seconds and put it over the wafer to help the wax melt down into the stoma a bit for a good seal.
