Has anyone seen these before? If I try to pop them, only blood comes out. Then they heal and don't go away.

Nope, not like that. It's located on the bottom of your stoma, right?

Not sure I'd be popping them but understand the reason why.

Do you see a stoma nurse or dermatologist? They could help. That looks painful and odd. Sorry.

Good morning, do you use a skin prep? If you use a skin prep and stoma powder, then take the skin prep and lock it in so the powder stays in place and apply your appliance. It might help the redness and those bumps to go away. It looks like you irritated the skin around the stoma. Using skin prep powder will help heal the redness in your skin. It creates a shield between the skin and your appliance. It could be that you may be having an allergic reaction to the appliance itself. Use the adhesive tape to hold your bag on. It could be you're allergic to the adhesive. I don't get those bumps, but I get a little rash, like my skin accidentally has the skin protection, and sometimes the bow out from the ring and irritates the skin.

I don't know how long you've had your ostomy. If you've had one for a long time and this is the first time this is happening, I'll check with the doctor. If it's just the skin prep and the powder, see if that helps, and if not, let somebody know that's happening to you. Have a blessed day. Hope all goes well.

Looks like granulomas to me, but I'm no expert. Is the hole you're cutting in the flange too big, or are you having lots of leaks? Both are possible causes for them.

Yowch! From time to time I get sore areas around my stoma which I can heal overnight - no bumps, just sore areas. I apply one of two different products - either:

  1. Vicks VapoRub (sounds awful but is a really old home remedy for skin issues),
  2. Calazime Skin Protectant Paste

Whichever I apply, I will top it off with stoma powder and lightly tap with a ConvaTec skin barrier wipe.

Just as an FYI, the Vicks works the best and gives almost instant relief from burning.

I too tend to be a pimple popper, but I wouldn't even begin to consider popping something like that or anything within a 10” radius around the ole' stoma!!! jb

Hi Mon,

It's very difficult to make a diagnosis from a pic, so your best bet would be to see an ostomy nurse ASAP. Distinct individual papules like that could possibly be from a form of chronic dermatitis, but more likely are from a bacterial infection like Herpes Simplex or Herpes Zoster, so they need to be looked at. We're all just guessing here, so just go get it checked out and be sure.
