When I change my bag, I play smooth jazz for my stoma. It seems to help calm it down. Didn't know if I was the only person to do something weird during a bag change?

I think you’re the only one. 😁 There are a few oddballs on here that rewrite songs to include stoma stuff but they’re a very select few. 🤪🤭

Hey, I have sung to my stoma, and I talk and sometimes yell at it. She doesn't like to behave and behaves very oddly when I change my bag and takes quite a long time. Lol, hey, my doc started talking to her, guess he would after all he had to do with my stoma. And she doesn't like air either, or well, technically, I guess you can say she loves it. As soon as air touches her, boom, she's off like a rocket, and as soon as she is free from that bag, boom. Lol.

No, I never really have, except maybe the odd occasions when I've changed him in a car or truck.

...Hmm...music...for the stoma? Last time I saw that thing, it had no ears. 😆

Uh oh...🎤🎵If the music moves you, let it cool you.🎵 Don't make your stoma frown... if you believe it works, then get it on. 🎶

But hey! What do I know? I'm that oddball... (waves to Alex 🖐)

So... how do you know it's calming your stoma down? Have you done any A/B testing to verify? Would love to see your data on this! You could be on to something... or in need of a psychiatrist. If you play the music but wear ear plugs, does your stoma still stay calm? As those who think that world peace and the economy are doing great and we need four more years of it would say... 'data matters'... unless, of course, they don't like it.

;O)

Hey, if the music calms cjotl down while she changes her bag and that's what helps her, what's the big deal? We all have our thing when we change it. No need to go poke and make fun of someone.

No, no, it wasn't about calming her down, see? It was about calming her stomach... she asked... but yes, hearing music, smooth jazz certainly must calm her down, which in turn relaxes the mind, muscles, and everything else in-between. So go for it indeed. Sure beats a Quaalude. 😵‍💫

And my singing about about. 🤦‍♂️ (waves to Alex. 👋)

Lol, I am the one who said I have sung to my stoma, lol, and it's not a song about going... more like telling it to hush up, lol. But when it takes you 2-4 hours to change a bag and you're sitting with a red solo cup, you're going to tell it to hush up, lol. As I had said, my doc started talking to it, telling it to behave, lol. After all, he did perform 5 surgeries; he didn't want to mess with my stoma anymore, he wanted it to stay put.

I should say I play it on the Google speaker, not an instrument or anything. Lol

Heyyyy.. I resemble that remark.  Not only am I a "ball" of fun, I'm "odd" to boot!  Just ask my weasel cat or Mrs B.

Oddly enough, I used to have a musical butt.  Kinda like a Kazoo/French Horn combo.  But alas... its mellifluous notes have been silenced.  Replaced by a single octave foghorn stoma.

Hi, I'm happy your stoma loves music! You do what feels right for you to feel relaxed and confident. I don't play music specifically for my Moana, but I do have a whole meditative routine before each bag change and shower.

I was horribly anxious at every bag change for the first couple of years until I found myself creating a soothing routine. I clean the bathroom, burn a stick of Nag Champa incense, set out my supplies, my magnifying mirror, and gauze. I put an empty bag in the shower for the garbage. LOL, nutbar? I say a prayer before removing the old bag. It's odd, but it has become a ritual. I feel it works as the few really scary problems I've had with my stoma have always been healed before the next bag change. I feel a lot less anxious about it all now, even when traveling.

My Moana is now appreciated and pampered rather than feared, thank God! Best wishes.

When I change my ostomy bags, I listen to a playlist I created with all of my favorite songs, the ones that make me feel good and happy. I've done it for years.... I think it helps me stay calm, which helps my stoma respond kindly :)

Careful... my Cat-Weasel (special breed) is reading all your posts and taking notes on her scratching post Apple laptop. She thinks it's odd that humans have a ball on the internet. Oops... she just indicated for me to beat it, she's busy. Forgot she's working remotely this week. My bad.

I usually listen to audio books but not for my stoma. I listen to help me take my mind off what I'm doing and to calm me down as I change.

I actually play music while changing my ostomy. It keeps me in a calm mood and it seems that it keeps my stoma calm too. When I don’t play music, it can be a complete mess.
