I have a loop ileostomy and a colonoscopy tomorrow. The surgeon's secretary gave me bisacodyl and told me to take it this evening, but he told me my prep isn't like a "normal" cleansing for the procedure. I'm hesitant to take it because of the possibility of extreme dehydration and think she made a mistake. Any ideas or input would be appreciated.

I recently had a colonoscopy before having my ileostomy reversed and didn't need prep, just an enema before the procedure. I would double-check with the secretary as it may just have been advised as standard procedure.

Hi HD, just drink clear fluids, OJ, tea, nothing with red or purple coloring; maybe chicken broth for a day should clean you out.

I have an ileostomy and I didn't even have to do an enema before my procedure. Didn't have to do anything. Just show up.

Thank you and congratulations on the reversal surgery. On a side note... were you doing therapy prior to medical complications? I have never done it, but many people are recommending it and have definitely slipped into some challenging emotional states/depression.

I'm just starting it now. I wanted to wait until I knew if the reversal would happen or not. I've had three major surgeries in three months: the first one was planned, the second was an emergency as the bowel had leaked and perforated, and the third was the reversal. I definitely have had some really dark days, and if you can go to therapy, it's worth it.
