i use a Convatec  enclosed two piece pouch with a charcole filter. It's disposable.  It's supposed to vent itself, and be odorless. I can smell it. I've got to be doing something wrong.

Im brand new. I change out to the two piece part for the first time tomorrow with the help of the stony nurse.

this is all just so challenging.

any help??

This is all pretty overwhelming at first and a lot to take in. Once in a while some odor will sneak out. Trust me, it's not a regular thing. I thought I could smell something all the time when I first got my appliance. In my case I think it was often my imagination. Once you get a little more confortable with the whole program you'll be able to try different pouches and products untill you find what works well for you. I've had mine for about 15 months and everything is o/k, it's just a little bit different way of doing things. Before my cancer, I didn't even know what an ostomy was. It's a pretty scary thing at first, but that will pass before you know it! Hang in there, soon you will be posting advice on this forum

I use ConvaTec two-piece drainable appliances (which I love) and know what you mean about smell.  Like Alistair said, once in a great while, some odor sneaks out and sometimes I think I smell something all the time, yet my husband can sniff around me and can't smell a thing.  I wonder if it's all in my nose hairs and that's what I'm smelling.

Hi, Just wanted to comment on your inquiry about pouches and odors.  Have you tried the Coloplast two piece click system?  I have been using it for three years and have been fairly pleased.  You may contact Coloplast and ask for samples too.  The reps are very helpful.  As I posted previously, I am an advocate of ostomy deodorant...my three favs are M9, Na'scent and Safe and Simple.  I am going to try OstoFresh over the weekend when I make a complete wafer/pouch change.  I will let you know how is works.  Anyway, getting back to the pouch filter and odor.  Once I had a problem with the filter causing odor.  It absorbed the liquid of my pouch and I got the pouch wet .... the result was odor/stinky.  Today, I change my pouch every day or every other day because the filter stops working because it gets clogged with effulent/poop.  I know that other people can go days with their pouches but it just doesn't work for me.  I have tried everything and that filter clogs.  So, I change it.  I also use a drainable pouch because I have an ileostomy that chatters all day at different speeds.  LOL.  Take care and good luck.  You will find what system and product that works best for you....LH
