The last 2 days I have tried putting the ring right up against my stoma. It lasted the night then at dinner it started to hurt pretty bad. I've tried flat wafers, convex flip because my belly is rounded at my stoma. I'm still struggling.

I know convex is for stomas more flush to the skin, would it hurt to try a regular convex wafer? I fixed the leaking issue on each side by keeping the ring against my stoma instead of allowing any space.

Hi Sm,

It can't hurt to try a convex, but you're right... it generally is used when the stoma is at or close to skin level. Give it a go... at this point, what do you have to lose? The other thing you could try is a device they make that directs your output away from your stoma. I'm trying to remember the name of it... I just saw an ad for it the other day. It's basically a plastic lip that sits at the bottom of your stoma and directs your output out into your bag so it can't drip down and spoil the seal between the barrier, ring, and your skin. I'll go look in my deleted emails and see if I can find it. And maybe someone else on here will remember the name of that thing. Be back in a bit!

Ok... found it. It's called Flowassist. You can Google that and see who has it the cheapest, and here's the Facebook link to see a good pic of it.

Why does the irritated skin go so far down towards your waist? Or maybe I’m seeing something. 🤷‍♂️ I tried hard convex bags per my ostomy nurse, hated them. Soft convex may be better but I just went back to flat and I don’t have any issues.

I wouldn't recommend wearing a convex bag right now because of the separation you have. I would wait until that heals before trying it.

I use a convex and my stoma is well above the skin, just works better for me with an elastic belt, but I'm with Beth, you need a bit of healing first.

It's definitely worth a try. I'm using a convex on my colostomy that is above skin level (but probably not far enough above) and it simply works better for me.

I use a 1 piece convex Hollister 8415 set up for my Urostomy, and my stoma sticks out well above skin level. Works great for me.

You have a bulge and need to take the test to see which product is best for you.

Likely, looking at a convex flip is my best guess.
