Hi,

Lately the barrier extender strips for the flange don’t stick well to my skin.

Anyone else having this problem?

Morning...

Nope. I do not have that issue.

Those strips stick like crazy. I don't know why you are having a non-stick situation.

It could be a defective lot.

It could be your skin too. However, that would mean your flange or wafer isn't sticking too well either.

Is this true?

Those strips do their job to hold back leakage and give a sense of confidence. Security...

I would question the quality of the product and possibly oily skin or not dry, clean skin. Possible?

Likely something you're using in the shower or applying to your skin afterward, or perhaps not sufficiently blow drying the area well enough.

Could be you're just wiping off spew instead of heading back into the shower to use antibacterial liquid soap to wash the area and remove the oils spew has.

Could be that you're applying stoma powder and not applying skin protectant to the entire area and blow drying it well afterward.

Adhesives need clean, dust/oil-free, and very dry skin to stick to. Also, to remain so, like from too much sweating or eating oily foods like creamy peanut butter. (With nuts can cause a clog hazard for those with an ileostomy)

My advice is to remove everything and start over back into the shower and use only antibacterial liquid soap to wash the area and after each spew, to protect the area from runoff from other products you may be using on the rest of your body and blow dry the area well, doing a dry finger test, then try again.

If you're still having issues, it might be a product issue, but I doubt it.

Now the paste (if you're using that) might not be setting up well, that can happen, and simply mixing in a bit of stoma powder into it before applying seems to work to correct variances in production quality.

If your skin is wet at all or gets wet then I find they don't stick. I don't know if that is your issue but that is one thing that I have found to be true.

The wafer sticks to my skin well, just the extenders; maybe it is a product defect problem. The last set of extenders I had worked great.

There you go. The extenders you used this time could have been defective. It's always a possibility. Anyone saying otherwise is just not experienced enough to know.

I have put brand new parts in cars, for example. Parts become defective. Shelf life, stocking, temperature all affect the product.

I see it now, the expiration date on the box is May 2023, the strips must have deteriorated.
