Hello, hope you are all okay?

I have had my ileostomy for a few years and it is relatively well-behaved during the day. However, I have noticed it makes quite a bit of noise at night as it releases gas, etc. First of all, does anyone else experience this and if so, what tips would you suggest to help with this?

I get this in the early hours of the morning, before I am up out of bed. It's like my stoma is trying to say wake up. I don't really have any suggestions for how to stop it. Some would say it is the food you eat before bed. Or at your dinner meal. For me though it doesn't matter what I eat. I still get the farting stoma in the wee hours of the morning. And if I move any which way it does it again. I hope someone can give us both a valuable suggestion.

Stoma farts. That's what you are talking about, the noise and gas.

Some have reported during the day it "talks" out loud in the worst-case scenarios - like meetings and in line at the grocery store.

A lot of people note diet is the culprit like Lee said above.

There has to be a link between food and not just laying down but standing upright.

You say it's quiet during the day... only at night it sounds off.

And balloons.

My feelings are it's food-related. But also, laying down does something to affect this.

I'm expecting a long-winded reply from another member.

His response may help but grab a seat when you read it.

Gas is a common thing. Eating plays a role... as you will soon see from his long list.

Did you also know not eating will give you gas too? I found this to be true myself if you go to bed having eaten too early, going to bed a little hungry.

So welcome, dude. You are not alone.

Hi Mike, I get a lot of gas too, that often comes out at night. If it's noisy, which it probably is, I don't really know because I sleep through it. Is it so noisy that it's waking you up? Or waking someone up that you are sleeping with? Otherwise, I'm not sure why it would be a problem.

Probably ballooning would be the issue, but he's mentioning noises. If he hears this noise, it's waking him up. Are we talking about thunder here or what?⚡️⚡️🤣

I call mine a refined Kazoo.  A little high pitched at times... and it is fun when it startles my wife. 😉
