Has anybody's doctor requested they measure and record ileostomy output for the doctor to supposedly determine health?

They did mine while I was in the hospital but not once I got home.

I had to measure for the first few weeks after I was home… Are you concerned about the reason the Dr asked you to do it or something else?

Yes, when I first had my ileo, nurses did it in the hospital, and when I had my jejunostomy, nurses did it again, and I had to do it at home occasionally. Why does your doctor want you to measure it? Are you having high output or losing weight?

When I was in the hospital with a blockage I had to do that, but not at home. I tracked it at first at home to know when to take imodium but now I don't need to do that anymore because I don't usually have enough output to need imodium. But only in the hospital did I have to record that by a doctor's order. Maybe your doctor is just doing that because you are a new ostomate?

Only while in hospital for a short period to determine if everything was flowing and functioning ok.

When I read your message, I envisioned Dr. John Harvey Kellogg in The Road to Wellville movie. 🤔

When you're in the hospital, they always do until you go home. Then they will normally send you home with some measurement cylinders. A couple of reasons your doctor would want you to have them are: one, if you were slower than normal; another is if you're too liquidy. You don't want to have less than 700 cc, and you don't want to exceed 1400 cc.

They only checked in the hospital, but I had a JP bag I had to measure and write down at home. Mostly I'm asked about my output, or how often a day I empty at home.
