Well folks the time has come.  I guess I should say Howdy yall, I'm fixin to saddle up and get this dang hole in my belly put in a different spot.  This Brook thing is irritating the heck out of me so I figured I would get them Docs to do what they call a k-pouch.  Purty much the same cuttin as last time but hopefully much easier to live with.  I'm checkin in on the 23rd and the slicen and dicen starts on the 24th.  I recon I will be in there for about 2 weeks before I check out (I plan on checkin out the right way).  This will be the third time I have been gutted so I told that Doc that I want him to take a good look around and fix anything that ain't right because I don't want them messin with me any more.

I should have several boxes of 1 3/4 in. (45mm) precut Convatec waffers, bags, adhesive wipes, and skin protectant that I will be glad to donate.  All I ask is that folks who are truly in financial need request them.

I reckon that's all I got to say for now.

Bye yall and be careful out there.

Well best of Luck to you! I know the success rate of either is not real high -that the reason i elected not to get a J-Pouch -plus draining my bag 10 or more times a day is a snap going out me Bum that often or through a valve and tube would be frustrating to me. not too many Drs seem to do the K-Pouch anymore -have only met 2 people in the past 10 yrs to get them. The Drs seems to lean towards J-Pouches now instead if the rectum is still intact and working -

Megman,

You may want to consider doing Kegel exercises to give yourself better control over possible rectal pressure or leakage after your surgery. I understand that the K-pouch is smaller than the J-pouch, and therefore you may need more frequent visits to the BR. Talk with your doctor about Kegels. They are definitely not for women only and can't hurt. Good luck!      PB

Hope everything went well for ya. If I may ask, I had thought about reversal surgery many moons ago when I 1st got my ostomy in 87. Back then the docs told me the operation was a 3 stage process IIRC, 1st they would make a loop ileo, then the 2nd procedure would be the formation and connection of the new pouch to the rectal tissue and finally the 3rd procedure would be taking down the loop ileo and re-connecting all the plumbing. If I recall it was a months long process and that was the main drawback for me...well that and three additional surgeries. How do they do it nowadays? seems like it is a one shot (although kind of long) procedure, are you only oing to have one hospital stay? Anyhow thanks for any info...Be Well.

Man so many false statements in this thread. The kpouch and BCIR has been along longer than the Jpouch and yes many surgeons DO do them. There is a very high success rate with them, more so than with the jpouch. It is rare you hear of so many problems with Kpouches and BCIRs compared to the Jpouch. Many switch to a continent ileostomy for those reasons. I know a lot of people with continent ileostomies. You also DO NOT do kegals with a kpouch. There is no rectum so your bathroom trips are less than a jpouch. I have a BCIR and I go to the bathroom 2 times a day, afternoon and evening. Please get facts straight before posting false statements.

It is a one step surgery and my stay in the hospital was 21 days, my pouch was on drainage then went home to intubate on my own until it stretched out.

Good luck to you OP! Did you have surgery yet? I just saw Jacobson yesterday FYI.
