Hi all

FLUSHABLES

I have been using flushable colostomy bags for over five months now. They are great when away from home. Hygenic, discreet, and  no smells. You will only have problems if the sewage system is faulty. I have never had any problems myself.

Revers a permanent colostomy

Yes, that right, most of us can get rid if the bag !

  1. Pyloric Valve Substitution operation: Replaces a removed sphincter
  2. Appear operation : Use a remote control to control the sphincter
  3. ESGN operation: Electrical stimulation of nerves around the thigh, as a replacement of the sphincter.

Make an online search and you will have more details. The first one was developed in the US and the other two in UK

Hello Malti,

I tried the electrical stimulation of the muscles around the sphincter but unfortunately it did not work for me. Soon after that I had an internal prolapse which they also tried to fix without success. After several operations it was decided that the best option would be a colostomy -- so it seems I don't have a lot of choice but to put up with what I've got.

Best wishes

Hi Malti.  Your suggestion of research is critically important (regarding reversing a permanent colostomy).  Some of the reading material on the topic doesn't appear to be more recent than 2011 (eg. Pyloric Valve Substitution).

It might set-off a large number of ostomates with inappropriate expectations.

I'm having sufficient QA concerns with Hollister (mfr of the pouches which I use), that I'm leery of further research on the surgery.

In my 22 years with a colostomy, I have become very comfortable with my medical and support team.  In my specific case, I do not believe that there is sufficient "upside" to risk such invasive approach.
