I am told in 5 months I can have the surgery to reconnect my colon. Any tips how to make sure it happens or to speed it up?

Speed it up? Recovery? Short answer? Nope.

You can't rush healing. You will complicate it if so. This is major surgery. Take your time healing.

From what I have read from recovering from this surgery, some have it easy—no complications. Others, not so much.

That is what you may want to dwell on. Not speeding up the process. Complications associated with this recovery after surgery...

All in good time, they say.

Check out what others say when they chime in.

Big welcome and ask anything.

Agreed, Warrior. Well said. The body will heal when it heals, and there is no rushing healing; it can't be done. And you are right, some have it tougher than others and get complications, and others don't. Our bodies are all different. It seems people tend to forget that fact. We all react differently to medications, to our pouching system, healing, food, coffee, sweets, etc. None of our bodies will react the same as another person. We are all unique. 😁

Wear a support belt.  It's easy to develop a parastomal hernia, without even knowing it.  It's not proven a belt will prevent this... but it sure won't hurt.

Ditto everything that has been said. Follow all doctor's advice, make sure you are getting good nutrition with plenty of protein, exercise (carefully and keep it light like walking).
