I had my ileostomy reversal done on Dec. 2. My surgery for the ostomy was done as an emergency
on June 3 of this year. In March of this year I had a heart attack. Been something of a tough year
but it has to get better. While in the hospital they removed the two drains in the wound and said
they would start to remove staples later, after being home. I had, while in the hospital, severe
bouts of diarrhea but a day or so prior to leaving for home it stopped. While home the diarrhea was
not present but I actually had the good fortune to have a couple of days of relatively normal BM's.
Since then it has been all downhill on a high speed run. Lots of diarrhea and no regular BM's.
My diet as per the surgeon is anything I want. This seems strange to me so I am careful about what
I am eating. Oatmeal, cream of wheat, soft scrambled eggs, toast and peanut butter, bananas,
apples, peeled, oranges, yogurt. An occasional piece of chocolate candy(is this bad), crackers and a
little milk and a cup of coffee.
My gut is still swollen, distended on the right side. Normal at this point in time I trust. My med's
are what I've taken for years. Lipitor, Pepcid, asprin, not much else. Is there anything that anyone
can tell me to try, what they have done or used, results. I am starting to take about 3-4 Metamucil
Capsules a day along with 2-3 Gas X tablets a day. Are these ok?
Does anyone know of websites that have good information about life after a reversal, types of foods
to eat, diets they say work, at least most of the time. I am glad to have had the reversal done and
hope to get some part of my life back. I've kids and grandkids around the country and would like to travel next year and see them once again. Thanks for listening. Any information or advice will most
certainly be appreciated.
Thanks
Larry
