Hi,

My name is Marsha, and I've had my ileostomy for more than 50 years, and was married to a man who also had an ileostomy due to a life time of Crohns disease.   Both of us, including our older son, had issues of  high uric acid kidney stones.   For the most part, diet and medication, took care of that.

But my ex husband did end up needing dyalisis during the last year of his life ( 72) until he passed away last year.   And although I don't have uric acid kidney stones, I do have a damaged kidney, that produced bacterial kidney stones ( not food related) that can't be shattered.  Five years ago, the "sludge" like bacteria, caused kidney failure, and I needed to have a stent in for about 6 weeks.  Since Nov of 2013, I had pains again, and this time had putty like stones that had to be removed surgically.

Since the kidney still functions, removing it hasn't been suggested.....but the likeliness of "Kidney Failure" again is still there.   I hope this answers some of your questions.

I've been told that because of the disease / and or the loss of the Colon, the Kidney is taxed by having to filter more impurities than "normal"  sometimes causing the kidney failure.

Marsha

hi lulu i just had a 1.5cm stone removed via laser and now have a stent in my ureter tube and scheduled to have that removed next tues. not something to look forward to but hopefully will start feeling better afterwards, i,ve had my ileo. for 30yrs. now and have been bothered with stones ever since. the urologist says having an ileo. increases the chances of kidney problems due to stone formation.
