Hello fellow Ostomates. I have decided to take a little time to offer my opinion on two of the current products designed for those with ostomies that claim to make 'life a little easier' and are recent patents invented by ostomates.

First of all, we all have our way of coping, and some of us have very little problems while others find it difficult according to their lifestyle. The COLO_MAJICK flushable liner for two-piece ostomy systems was designed basically to make going to the john more 'normal' and easier to deal with. It is like a little clear 'glad bag' that you slip inside your pouch that collects the waste. When it fills, you simply grab the plastic bag material by the edges and pull it out of the pouch, then drop it into the toilet. This in turn saves on the use of pouches which are VERY expensive. These pouches flush well as long as you don't have a septic system that can't hold up to them (most normal toilet systems work fine). If you change liners in a public john, you will need lots of odor spray just in case your 'change' didn't go smoothly (where you had an extended period of cleaning the area, or replacing another liner inside the pouch).

This item does help in the amount of pouches that you use, and is fine for a person who uses the two-piece systems. The liner will fit most systems. The only problem I encountered was with the odor that came from the pouch while these liners were in place. You are supposed to prick holes on the sides of the liner in a designated place to allow for your pouch odor filters to work. I did, and it just did not work all the time no matter how many holes I poked in.

I bought 30 liners for $23. They are a good alternative for those with an active, fast-paced lifestyle, or for those who just want to get in and out of the bathroom without a hitch. The odor problem can be managed, and the product gives you a new sense of freedom and flexibility. You just have to change it before it gets too full (about one-third full just as you would your pouch), and quite possibly add some kind of deodorant.

Overall, these liners will help some, and be an added burden for others (based on my conversations with others who tried them). Some people just have a hard time slipping the liner inside the pouch. I just fold the liner down the middle and use two fingers to slide it inside the pouch and then use the two fingers to 'open' and spread the liner out inside the pouch. This becomes easy over a very short time.

Save money on pouches in the long run. I give this product 4 stars out of five.

Next time: Ostomy Belt with Peristomal Hernia Support. Can you discover newfound freedom or are you wasting $50?

My insurance won't allow me to purchase them.  Why?  Beats me.

I have been using the ostomy liners for almost a year and they have changed my life. I think they are wonderful. They have given me so much dignity back and I feel much freer when going out. No more draining bags, just pull it out, flush, and replace. I have used them in a septic tank situation and had no problem. Also, you will now be able to use a closed-end bag which is so much nicer and it will last for a few days (depending!) with these liners. So, using less product could possibly be an argument to one's insurance company.

I just started using them and I think they're great! Saving me a small fortune by not having to buy bags. The insurance companies will only pay for one box of bags per month. They come 60 to a box, which means I can only use two a day. That is ridiculous. I happen to be a little fanatical about staying clean and I change about 5-6 times a day. Now I don't mind changing so much. And yes, the bags are very expensive. I had to pay $117 for a box. I paid $65 for 300 bags, which is just fine with me.
