In March, I had my Colectomy, and after a couple months I came to terms with having an ileostomy. It poke out nicely, was easy to bag. I got good at it, and changed it about every 3-4 days.

Then on June 29 I had J-Pouch Surgery, and now have a somewhat retracted, concave, loop ileostomy. Times have changed!! I had complications in the hospital, which resulted in a wound with wound vac near my ostomy. My ostomy bags constantly leak, I’ll go through 5-10 bags a day. The skin surrounding my stoma is damaged and weepy, Because of this nothing adheres to it.   I need help and suggestions! I have a in-home nurse who comes about three times a week and even she has become perplexed with how difficult it is to keep my ostomy bags on. The other problem is that with the wound VAC in such close proximity it breaks the seal of the vacuum.  I should mention that my ileostomy is high up in my output is completely liquid gastric juices with no Substance at all.

Hi, I had trouble with my skin around "New Maxine" after my second surgery.  My doctor ordered Marathon No Sting Cyanoacrylate Skin Protectant.  They work really well and give a good surface to seal the bag to.  The protecant is strong but breathable.  It is made by Medline.  Perhaps you can talk to your doc and osteo nurse about it.  I wish you the best.

I am currently having issues with the bag coming off. It has to do with the humidity here. Sweating this time of year is common among us. You may try using stoma powder to preent the sweat from intefering with the wafer. Also, having hair around my stoma, I shave around it (never towards the stoma), and that helps a little. Last week, I was going through 2-3 bags a day. As of right now, it is about one a day. Best of luck to you.

Roz.  I hear, and feel sorry for you.  Unless you have hade flange problems at some sort of time, you do not know what people go through.  When I was in hospital for my surprise ostomy, I had a problem with equipment.  After I went through 31 changes in two days, so I hear you.  My reversal did not work, as I needed emergency surgery 10 days after having it done.  As it turned out, I was use to using one company, (without saying names ) and the hospital was trying another type.  Just would not work.  So don't despare, sometimes the solution is smaller than we think.
