I would love to know how other ileostomists manage to sleep through the night without having to get up to empty.
I have to empty one to three times. I have tried having my last meal around 6 PM but still have to empty at least once. I don't set my alarm. I'm so tuned in to my bag that it even encroaches on my dreams, so I go to the loo when my bag's full to empty.

I have a loop ileostomy and a colonoscopy tomorrow. The surgeon's secretary gave me bisacodyl and told me to take it this evening, but he told me my prep isn't like a "normal" cleansing for the procedure. I'm hesitant to take it because of the possibility of extreme dehydration and think she made a mistake. Any ideas or input would be appreciated.

I'm a private pilot whose medical has come due for renewal while I'm waiting for my reconnect surgery date. I don't see any reason why this would disqualify me from flying, but before opening a can of worms with the FAA and having to jump through hoops after reconnect, I would like to hear about others' experiences.

I've literally been discharged from hospital this evening after a 6 week stay, 3 weeks post ileostomy.

I have had no output from my stoma for over 12 hours now but no swelling and no real pain.

I stopped eating solids about 4 hours in and have been on liquids only since, including a glass of coke as I've heard it can help. But nothing is happening.

I got my colostomy this past May due to diverticulitis that caused sepsis. They removed some colon and intestine, but the surgeon said in February of next year I'll get a reversal.

I will have a knee replacement in January 2025. Oxycodone is the pain medication most often prescribed post-surgery for at least the first few days. I know oxy/opioids cause constipation. What's the effect with an ileostomy since there is just the small intestine? Has anyone had a knee replacement who has an ileostomy?

I have had my colostomy for 2-1/2 years now. At the same time that diverticulitis destroyed my sigmoid colon my kidneys failed so reversal surgery wasn’t really my priority while on dialysis. Having the colostomy was actually a blessing during treatments. Last September I had a successful kidney transplant and have returned to a “new normal” life.

I have had an ileostomy for nine months. I have always had high output, and some days it is almost all watery, and other days more mixed viscosity. Sometimes my stoma just shoots out water, and other times it is normal, then turns pasty, and then watery all within fifteen minutes.
Does anyone else have this problem?

It's my first time posting. I've just had a colostomy a month ago. I'm wondering which is better for quality of life: to keep the stoma or to return to a normal anus. As far as I have looked up, there are so many problems after getting it back. But at the same time, having a stoma also presents many difficulties in life. Please give me any opinions or advice.
