I think my surgery took about 2-2.5 hours. I had a lot of scar tissue from a previous surgery, and it always takes me a long time to wake up, so I think that's quite a bit longer than expected. If I recall, she said it normally takes 45 minutes to 1.5 hours. You are lucky you are first. By the time I got in, I was starving! :-)

Hi singtune4u. Did you have Hartmann's reversal? My surgical team has said 7-10 days in the hospital, which seems rather long.

Hey there - I was told 5-7 days for my reversal; I was out in three.

I was given three criteria to leave the hospital: bowel movement or gas, painkillers taken orally, and walking.

Mine was laparoscopic and estimated at 2-2.5 hours but took 7 due to a few complications the surgical team easily handled.

I quietly celebrated that first movement.

You got this!

Hi there. They've told me 7-10 days in the hospital, hopefully a lot sooner. It's fantastic how you have bounced back from it and recovered from the reversal. Mine is in 2 days' time. Tomorrow is prep day 🤢 then 7 a.m. on August 1st, first on the list. I'm bloody terrified!

In my opinion, it is best to get it done first thing in the morning. My bowel prep was rough, so I was relieved to be at the hospital and ready for the big nap!!! It will be over before you know it. I was surprised by how much easier it was than my first colostomy surgery!! It is going to go great for you. Hang in there, you are almost at the finish line! I am cheering you on!

Thank you, Dexie. It's the big build-up to it all and having time to think about it. With my first emergency surgery, there was no time to think about things. I'll let you know when it's over. I appreciate your and everyone's support x

I had an ileostomy in 2009 and had it reversed 6 weeks later. I have a hernia from the incision site that started not long after the reversal. Give yourself time to heal and try to avoid having a hernia occur. I am 70 years old and it has not bothered me or caused pain, but I am looking for others who might have had hernia repair and/or related information.

I had an ileostomy 15 years ago and it was reversed 6 weeks later. I began to get a hernia soon after the reversal and it has gotten a bit larger since, but it has never caused pain or bothered me. I have been trying to research whether I need to worry about it or not. At my age, I'm not concerned about the look of the bulge but do wonder if there is any danger in leaving it.

Wishing you all the best.
