It has been 2 months, almost 3, since I had a colostomy. About 3weeks ago, I had pain in the abs. Went to the ER and found out I was impacted severely. The pain never subsided like it usually does after a movement, so I went back to the hospital as my doctor told me to do. They performed a CT scan and said I had proctitis, which is inflammation of the colon and needs antibiotics to treat. Has anyone experienced this before? It hurts badly on the right side when I eat or drink.

My first question is why did you need a colostomy? Did you ever talk to your colorectal surgeon about this? I do hope you feel better soon. There are so many issues that cause us to have a colostomy and many after effects that are unusual.

A quote from NIDDK:

Are there different types of proctitis?
Experts have identified several types of proctitis, which have different causes and treatments.

Proctitis may be chronic or acute. Chronic proctitis can last a long time or may come and go over time. Acute proctitis develops suddenly and lasts a short time.

Common types of proctitis include the following:

Proctitis in IBD
Proctitis may be part of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease are common types of IBD that may cause proctitis. Proctitis in IBD is chronic, and it is the most common type of proctitis.
