Not too long ago, somebody asked if there was a way to take a shower without getting the bag wet.  I noticed that  there were a few people replying but nobody actually came up with a really good way.  I have been looking through the posts and I can't find it anywhere, so I guess I'm starting up a new one...LOL

I, too, was curious so I stopped into the local prescription place and spoke with  the lady that took care of the Hollister supplies.  I got my answer, and as soon as I can get my supply, I will let you know how it worked.

It is called Stoma Caps and it's Hollister 3184.  She told me that all you have to do is to remove the bag and then  cover the stoma and shower.

Good luck all!

well I can tell you I just take a shower and let the bag get wet.Its not going to hurt it and after your done just hold a terrycloth towel on both sides of the bag and it will dry quickly. The wafer I use sticks very well to my skin.I swim in the ocean and my wafers last 2-3 weeks .I used to be cautious but the last year I just let it go and no worries here. You cant let the bag control your life, take a chance,if that works take another.Pretty soon you wont even think about trying to cover it.just jump in the shower and have at it.Have fun.

I don't worry about the pouch while showering either.  Water won't hurt it.  Drys very easily.  Water hasn't affected my flange either.  I just make sure both are dried very good after shower.  When changing flanges and pouches, which I do every 5 days, I take a shower with the flange removed, helps to get the skin really clean around the stoma.

Hi ..  I'm new here, but I can share my experience for showering.  If I prefer to leave the wafer and pouch in place, I put a shower cap over it all and it works pretty well.   Sometimes I take it all off and bring a paper cup into the shower in case of ... you know what ..   All in all,  it's not a big deal and as time goes on,  we learn to live with all these things... I'm at the point now where I do everything I want,  go everywhere I want, and don't give the wafter and pouch a second thought.  I DO carry supplies with me everywhere I go tho ... just in case.   Hope this helps ...

I have finally realized that if I don't get going on the showering, I'll end up taking sponge baths in the sink and washing my hair in there too.

I got up this morning and told myself to knock off the crap and start living.  I took my bag off and cleaned all around the stoma with my flange on.  After that, I took a piece of saran wrap and put  it all around the flange.

I jumped, well stepped into the shower and it was such a relief!!  I'm glad now that I was chewed out by some of you and now it's time to wake up.

Thanks for the help!!

Hi Mystified,

Im the same at the moment, I have a surgical wound healing, and haivng strip washes, my bathroom is so cold I bring a bowl of hot water into the bedroom. Im only allowed to take a shower the days my nurses change my dressings (Tues & Fri). Its driving me mad lol

Cant wait to be back to normal with a healed wound. Then I have to go through a reversal so it will all happen again. Needs must.

Glad you can now take showers, they feel wonderfull

I have been showering everyday simply taking off the bag, no plastic wrap or any of that but when I get out of the shower I use the hair dryer to reallly dry the band-aid part of my flange and it works great. Plus it warms me up.

never even thought about it, just get in the shower and dry the bag off with a towel, no problems at all.

Glad the showering issue has been resolved.  I'm much like Greg, bikerboy, & rarely give it a thought.  I just get in, soap up, wash off & when I dry off, make sure I dry off the pouch & tape part of the flange.  Sometimes though, when I want to shower fast, and get in the shower, and out of the house quickly, I stand in the shower with my back to the spray.  I can  wash all over, and even do my hair that way, but the water doesn't pound down on the flange.  Not perfect.....but works with multiple showers in a day, ( after the gym ) or when I'm in a rush.
