Hey all, question: I have an Ileostomy due to tight pelvic floor and have a large stool burden in the colon according to CT. I have been uncomfortable and feel like I need to go to the restroom but can't due to the tight pelvic floor. Has anyone with an Ileostomy ever used an enema? As I know we aren't to use laxatives as my output is normal, etc.

Well, I have an ileostomy and have used an enema in order to have a sigmoidoscopy done. However, I do not have any colon at all, so obviously not the same. I think your question is best directed to your surgeon. I assume your rectum is still connected to your sigmoid colon?

What parts of your colon do you have left? Do they think what is in your colon is what is going through the second opening in the loop ileostomy? Have they tried Botox injections in your pelvic floor muscles?

What parts of your colon do you have left? Your question is not clear. I think your question is best directed to your doctor.

Hi there,

I have severe pelvic floor dysfunction, the reason I got my ileostomy. Sorry, crappy colonaries but I will say I tried Botox injections and can tell you first hand they do not work for pelvic floor dysfunction. Is mucus stuck in your rectum? And where are you asking to use the enema? Like others have stated, the question is a bit unclear.

I have my entire colon. I would use an enema in the anus as I didn't know anywhere else one could use it. Thanks for the heads up about Botox. I've heard it's helped some and not others. Thx

I have a loop ileostomy, so I have my entire colon. They say people can develop mucous balls and stool burden even though the colon is bypassed. I know it's confusing as heck to me, but that's what the surgeon told me, and it becomes uncomfortable. So, I was just curious if anyone here can relate. Since I have an ileostomy due to being unable to pass stool, that's why I was considering an enema to help. Thanks.

Did you do biofeedback as well? I have that at home. If I can get numbers down enough and if I can pass expulsion test, I would be eligible for reversal. But another surgery makes me nervous as well because I've had so many in a short time period. I also have severe dumping syndrome due to damaged Vagus Nerve, so I have lost weight, etc. It's hard to absorb calories and nutrients. Do you take probiotics or anything? Thanks much 👍🏻
