For years I used just a one piece pouch. I fought tooth and nail against using 2pc, I thought it would be uncomfortable.  I tried it after last surgery and love 2pc. I'm looking to donate transparent 1pc pouches and a few accessories to someone in my area, Davenport, IA

It’s so amusing to me how everyone is different. I haven’t had mine long, but due to cost I fought against closed bags, and even worse, ONE PIECE closed bags.

I finally quit fighting and trying to make drainables work, trying to make two pieces work, and I’m super happy in my closed one-piece world. I do go through a lot of adhesive remover spray though.

I’m not in your area, I just found it how amusing we all try to make something work that doesn’t work and then finally give in and find what you like.

You can bring it to a hospital and donate it.

Hospitals and clinics can't take them by law because they've been in your home.

Try looking to see if there's a local ostomy support group that may need them.

This may vary by hospital policy.

They “gave me bags” at the hospital by putting a stack on a random surface in my hospital room. They aren’t worried about them being that clean.

Maybe it varies by state laws, so my bad. We can't accept them in Wisconsin or Minnesota—I do, but accept it and donate it as an individual and not as a nurse practitioner or on behalf of my clinic (that's my way of getting around the law). It has to do with crazies who purposely contaminate things with drugs and harmful things. The same reason you can't return meds to pharmacies.

Good idea. I'll call hospital WOCN.

Hey kas, I just didn't know that's how it was where you live. Here in Virginia and California, I'm not sure if they still do, but they say to bring any leftover meds to your local pharmacy so they can dispose of them properly.

Yes,  they will dispose of them but they can’t be used for other people

Did you try the 2 piece w/ closed pouches. Using a 1 piece w/ closed bag seems like it should be tough on your skin unless you can go 2 - 3 days between changes.

If you are not able to find a local donee, consider using one of the US or International organizations.

I have donated supplies to Friends of Ostomates Worldwide. They send you a shipping label ($15USA) which can be cheaper, depending on how much you send:  https://www.fowusa.org/

Here are some others that I have not used but are suggested by United Ostomy Association of America:

Kindred Box  https://www.kindredbox.org/donate-supplies
Osto Group  https://www.ostogroup.org/donations/
Ostomy 2-1-1  https://www.ostomy211.org/

Our UOAA IC/Cedar Rapids group collects them and donations of ancillary supplies from all companies. Gina distributes them to anyone who needs it. So does the IC Free Clinic and our local Ostomy nurses. Check with Genesis and your local community clinics.
