Considering Barbie Butt Surgery After Ostomy Success

After a couple decades of unexplained stomach and bowel issues I had a loop ileostomy done last Nov.  Made me feel so much better that did a "robotic" total ostomy this past May.  Had a large amount of unexpected adhesions in my abdomen area.  At that the time my surgeon said it would be good to have a "Barbie Butt" procedure in the future.  I am feeling great and ready to move on with life but seriously considering the last surgery in the near future.  I am 58 years old and have had diabetes for 42 years and still very active.  My questions are.....Has anyone had their rectal stump and anus removed robotically? After anus is removed I understand you are "closed", but will you still have two tushes (an indentation between your lower cheeks)?

I've had the barbie butt surgery; you still have two ass cheeks with an ass crack, it's just the hole itself that's removed / sewn shut!

Is there a reason for the Barbie butt? Are you having issues with pain and passing mucus?

Hi Carey,  I'm wondering the same thing as Beth.  If you are feeling great and everything is working find, why would your surgeon be pushing for a Barbie Butt?  I still have my rectal stump and still produce mucus, but it's never  been any problem for me.  Why the extra surgery if it's not necessary?

Yes, you have an indentation and 2 cheeks, unless you get your cheeks sewed together also like some do, but there’s still the indentation.

I had mucus; now I get mucus balls that I have to do an enema to pass.

I had mucus, then it stopped.  I also have a fluid pocket between my stump and vagina.  Now I have to do an enema every couple weeks because of mucus balls that don't pass.

I’d hate to deal with mucus. 🥴

G-Day Carey, finish the job and get your butt stitched up. No mucus and no possibility for rectal cancer. And yes, it does happen. Regards, IGGIE

To Carey... hey there. Welcome.

I saw this post the other day... have been thinking about the first sentence all this time... that... you had gone for decades without knowing what the root cause was... the symptoms to me appear to be IBD, but you didn't mention any diagnosis, and yet the doctor went ahead with the ileo, which worked out well for you.

It didn't sound like an emergency surgery.

To me, the doctor was guessing? Or figures "let's try this?"

Idk... what's going on when there is no diagnosis and they do this.

And now he has a crystal ball saying your future is a barbie butt??!!

Does he know something you don't?

With my large intestine removed, the plan was to reconnect to the stump.

He's not even offering you that. He's gutting you out, organ by organ.

Maybe I missed something here... I gotta go back and read, but if there are no issues with your butt right now... why doesn't he offer reconnecting the small intestine to the stump? This is assuming you have no large intestine left.

DITTO what Alex T. said about cheeks. Mine happens to be sewn. But I can moon Alex. Or anyone interested.

I had mine all removed at one time, the colon, the rectum, and anus, called a total proctocolectomy. But your anus will be stitched and closed. No more nothing from that area. Just a Barbie butt like Barbies.

I did not go into details, but Dr felt I had IBD. Rx, life changes, etc., did not help. Also did pelvic floor therapy with no improvement. Finally, I have had precancer at the entrance of my anus.

Thank you for those details.

With pre-cancer findings at the anus, that pretty much seals the deal to have it all removed, as Hisbicus pointed out...and as I am now.

Cancer would convince me in a heartbeat to get the stump, colon, anus removed and sewn up butt hole. Why chance it?

You have not gone through radiation yet, have you?

If they are not 95%+ sure that radiation will work, I’d skip it and just have the stuff cut out.

She's not into details. We have to wait to see if she had it or not.

Nasty stuff, that radiation. I've never experienced it or the fallout.

No. There was no active cancer and it was diagnosed as HPV. I have a couple of spots down there in the female area with the same diagnosis. All have been removed when found, with follow-up every 3-6 months, depending on the stage of the sample. Long story short, no radiation for this as of now. But with history, thinking it is still a good idea.
