I have a bit of gas — my ileostomy is only 2 weeks old. Is it safe to use simethicone? I saw my surgeon today and forgot to ask him.

Thanks

Having gas is normal when you have a ileostomy and you are only 2 weeks out. Learn to laugh about it and you'll be fine. No need to take anything for it. You aren't having bloating are you? Just gas. It could be what you are eating too that might be causing the gas. Really you are so early on in your recovery I'd expect a little gas.

Only 2 weeks in, don't take anything for it. As Infinity said, with an ostomy, you're going to have gas, and it's good that you are passing gas. Right now, your stoma is going to be going through changes. Your stoma is swollen right now and will be for another 6 weeks. Your output will change in color and consistency. It will take a bit before you get a regulated output, but this is all normal. So, you also want to be careful about what you're eating, such as mushy, easily digestible foods.

Thank you.  I’m keeping a food diary so I might be able to see how some things affect me.  It’s a whole new world for me and I appreciate everyone’s helpful input.

Hi Peek, welcome to the site. If you have an empty stomach, that will cause gas, so snacking in between meals is recommended.

Just in case no one knows, Shamrock's term of CLOG means blockage. Regards, IGGIE
