Is the Hollister 18323 Ostomy Pouch Really Discontinued?

Hello: I just had my home health nurse order some closed-end bags for me and my colostomy (finally! Can't use drainable anymore) and there was a yellow slip in the box that said, "Please note that this product is being discontinued. Due to global supply chain and sourcing challenges, your current ostomy pouch is no longer available." Now what do I do? The Hollister wafer is the only one that doesn't cause rashes, and I'm looking at 5 months of closed pouches I will need. Is this true? Is Hollister offering a replacement closed-end bag that fits their flanges?

Have you called Hollister and asked them ?

Hi Newb,

This is true... Hollister is discontinuing its entire Karaya line of products. Actually, they started last year, so I guess they're finally getting around to your favorite bag about now. They should offer an alternative in their CeraPlus line, but I don't know the corresponding number offhand. A quick call to Hollister, as Beth mentioned, should get you back on track.

:O)

Update: Sent an email to Hollister, and here was their reply; they do have a replacement; yay.

The recommended replacement for the discontinued item 18323 would be the Hollister 18373.

You will get farther by calling and talking with someone. And someone will actually look up products while on the phone with you to help.

Actually, they responded by email within an hour, and they noted that they had just sent me a sample of the new ones (I had called them last week to get samples). I enrolled in their Secure Start service, and they've been pretty responsive. They've given me more helpful info than my home health service, and so have the people on this Board - thank you for your comments.

I am glad they are helping. And yeah, home health sucks unfortunately. I had home health after one of my surgeries and it wasn't good at all. I canceled the home health after day 2, and my grandma had home health. She couldn't get out of bed or bathe herself for her last 4 years, and I couldn't stand the way they took care of her. It's not supposed to be that way. I am sorry you have to endure that.
