Ileostomy Complications: Managing Infection and Gastritis

I had surgery 2 weeks ago & have an ileostomy. Inthe  last few days I devloped a wound infection & gastritis and had terrible painful attack last night. I am taking anti biotics and omazaprole but don't wan to eat as I'm not hungrey and don't want to set off more pain. Any suggections? Also trying to drink some tea to keep out put up - is poweraid better?

 

I'm desperate and welcome any advice

Hello Fran. Sorry to hear that you are having these problems. I have found the most effective relief from gastritis for me is Metamucil. It's not available here in the UK, so I get it shipped from New Zealand. As with all these things, they work for some people and not for others - but it's probably worth a try.

Hi Fran I’m ileo to it will take some time to get back to a normal.firt I saw the same and felt the same pain.your body is trying to asimalate to your new life with us ostamate you will be more stronger in ways outhers not like you.smal intestine large meal will hurt comming out you will feel lumpy things under and around your stoma its just poop clumps lining up to come out drink hi proten smoothies alot of granola and chew food down more than ever if you don’t it will hurt coming out of your small intestine.ice cream semed to relax my intestines I lay down on my back and use a body wand with high frequency masage a round your stoma it will feel better. we feel more than normal people.try to relax and learn to not take what happened to you and turn it around what does not kill you makes you stronger.jerz from Baltimore.

Hi Fran best of luck, hopefully the pain will ease as your body adjusts to your new situation.  Try avoiding bread and possibly milk if you're lactose intolerant.  Never give up ice cream unless it really upsets you though.  I found that chocolate fudge diet soda has a soothing effect when I'm gassy (which is often).  Also good if you arent lactose intolerant is a greek yogurt with granola mixed in, expanding on the prior message.
