I've had my ileostomy since 2003 and now developed my 3rd hernia,. This one is right by the stoma. The previous repairs have not been easy. Has anyone else had multiple hernias?

Hi Buddi. Sorry no one is jumping in to help. I know some folks have experienced multiple surgeries and there are things we can do to mitigate the potential for additional problems. You may need to consult with your surgeon or find another doctor who can help.

I wish you the best,

Mike

Hi Mike,

Thanks for your reply. I think the biggest issue is having gained weight, which puts a lot of pressure on my abdomen. With my abdominal muscles already weakened by the previous surgeries my risk of having another hernia is pretty high.

I'm doing a couple of things including a weight loss management program through my insurance, and my ostomy nurse has ordered a custom hernia ostomy belt. Those 2 should help until I lose enough for my surgeon to do the repair.

But onward and upward...

Hi Dianna. My custom hernia ostomy belt has been a blessing in keeping my guts in place. It also helps with sealing the appliance right after a change. Keeping our weight where it belongs is always important. Sounds like your ostomy nurse is taking good care of you.

Thanks for sharing good news.

Respectfully,

Mike
