So... question. Has anyone ended up losing their teeth due to malnutrition and malabsorption due to sickness... many surgeries... etc. Due to their ileostomy?
Is this a common issue?

Good question!  I am looking forward to all your replies.

In the so-called 'good old days' , inmates in mental hospitals had all their teeth removed to prevent from them biting the staff. It perhaps puts a bit of malnutrition into perspective.

Best wishes

Bill

Yikes! I hope that doesn't happen very often! I've grown rather attached to my choppers.

All I can do is keep laughing at your comment, Bill! I hope I don't turn mental!

Me too... and chewing chewing (that's for an ileostomy gal) would be hard to do.

I'm pleased to say no, my teeth are the only thing left on my body that I don't have a problem with yet!.....I've had my ileostomy for over 30 years and about the same amount of surgeries too.

I may be wrong, I am sometimes, well quite often really lol. I'm sure I remember reading that people with Crohn's disease can have problems with their teeth.

Yeah... I didn't have Crohn's... I had a rare acute case of microscopic collagenous colitis. After 19 years of that and 2 years of pityriasis rubra pilaris prior to the other crap and losing almost all my organs you can live without (I don't think they can take anything else), I'm finding that my teeth are starting to deteriorate from the inside out. I really should have charged my doctors for all the organs they've taken!! Several of my specialists wrote my cases up in journals! Oh joy, woopie!
I need to know though if teeth have fallen out on others with this non-pooper thing! I need this like I need a hole in my tush!
I'm glad it didn't happen to you, Panther... how could you hunt in your wild without your teeth! LOL

I never thought of that, but in the last three years I have had seven teeth pulled. It has been shocking how fast cared for teeth could go south. Hmm.

Well... I made my decision, today they are yanking my teeth out! Too much pain and no need to endure more trouble again. I'll move on as always.

Yo Ritz Crackers!  Man, you're just chock full of good news lately, eh?  Ok, so I'm thinking about your situation...........now both MCC and periodontal disease are considered chronic inflammatory diseases. Their pathogenesis is mediated by a complex interplay between a dysbiotic microbiota and the host immune-inflammatory response, and both are influenced by genetic and environmental factors. Right?  Ok, ok......I didn't write that last sentence......I stole it from online.......it just looked way too impressive to not use.  But here's my question..........since they're both auto-immune diseases.......don't the current standard autoimmune meds work for both?  What does your Doc say about this.........I'm curious.

Later,

Bob

So Bob... you are exactly right. I have a body full of autoimmune diseases... thank God, the PRP is still in remission. That was worse than losing my large intestine, part of my small intestine, and everything associated with poop. Quarantined 8 times with C. diff, I had been shipped over the years to every major medical center, on every drug, and Humira and chemo and every drug to cure it... but nothing. Sarcasm has brought me through every day. I like to consider myself the problem child, the one that does not conform to the society that should be. If anything, my history is interesting! What do my doctors say... just keep on living - you're much better now than you used to be! My ileostomy was the best thing I ever agreed to... and I don't fart! (Not that I did before).... I'm not an asshole anymore, I'm a bag lady! Life gets better, I'm sure of it... I'll make it happen... Ritz

Ritz... imagine if everyone had your attitude! Wow, what a world it would be. Problem children are always the most interesting. Whenever I go see a new doc and they've only read my file and not seen me in person... the first thing they say is... wow, you look good. Based on what they read I assume they expect to see a dead man walking. I bet you wow them the same way as well! So despite them being clueless... we're still here! You've sure been through a lot... I know I'm impressed! I guess there's a few of us out there that defy the odds... or are just give life the middle finger on a regular basis... same thing I guess. We all get to dead... it's how we get there that defines us.

As for farting... I think it's one of those things that's cute when we're young... and becomes cute again when we're old... and it's only taken seriously when we're in the middle. My stoma's been more and more vocal lately, but I swear it's only at the quietest times when I'm either in a meeting or talking to someone one on one. I can tell by the expression on their face when it happens that they're confused. I just let 'em think about it while we continue our conversation. I often wonder if they ever figure it out?

Rock on sister...

Regards,

Bob

I think it's hilarious if my ileo makes noises when it's quiet and someone hears it... It has a unique sound like no other. It's the swelling or when it fills and one can see a bulge, they look, sometimes I kinda hold it up and I just say I'm a packin' mama! Here in AZ we can carry... I don't have the pleasure of a flannel shirt to hide it... Oh well, I just don't care anymore if everyone knows. I'm in my own world... They like it or too bad for them. I'm alive and I like who I am... Just stay bobbing, Bob, who cares.
