Anybody do this?

I'm have small colostomy parastomal hernia repaired with mesh. I know most stuff will be taboo for a time, but anyone eventually return to working out?

Weights? Running? Walking? Or is most anything stressful off limits permanently?

I recently had a parastomal hernia/hernia prolapse repair no mesh. Instead they stitched the muscles closer together. I've blown out a few stoma's from doing stupid so like Krav Maga 2 weeks post op and intense training and on the other hand I also blew from just sneezing when I had a cold so basically everyone is different but I would take it easy because you're core needs to gradually work it's way back to strengthening. Strenuous exercises is not it. Just doing light tightening exercises while sitting or laying down should help. Remember they cut those muscles  so be careful and light chores no heavy lifting๐Ÿ˜‰

Krav Maga! You're definitely an abusive stoma onwer :) ...super impressive though.

Just shocked how fragile my core is. I also di MMA lifted heavy for decades, but this is just not cool.

Not even sure Tai Chi woud be possible as weak as my stupid core is.

Was there some specific advantage to not using mesh in your case?

Walking is fine - that really doesn't use your core at all. Go back SLOWLY. Use walking to build back your stamina and breath, then slowly do other things to strengthen your core. Any time you're going to do core exercises, I would strongly advocate for a stoma support belt.

Hey, I'm the poster girl for what NOT to do (going back to the usual excercise routine without any support) so my honkin' huge hernia and I can definitely tell you what happens when you go back at it too quickly!
